Although the standard procedure
for many years was to wait until the third molars,
or wisdom teeth started causing problems—usually
in the late teens to early 20s—thinking has changed.
The American Association
or Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons now recommends that wisdom teeth be taken
out in the early to mid-teen years. A surgical
procedure for a younger person has less potential
risk, and the patient usually has a greater and
faster healing capacity.
